Dr Henry Austin
Henry has a special interest in physical health conditions with an underlying psychological contribution, or which impact psychological wellbeing, with a focus on sleep. His interests include:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for Insomnia Disorder.
- Other sleep-wake problems, including Circadian Rhythm Sleep- Wake Disorders and Parasomnias.
- Psychological problems which impact upon sleep, such as Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Trauma and Stressor-related Disorders, Persistent Pain and Substance Use Disorders (including smoking cessation).
- Stress management for patients with cardiovascular problems.
- Adjustment problems following diagnosis of a chronic or significant illness.
Henry provides a warm, supportive and collaborative environment to help people achieve greater quality of life. He works with individuals, groups and families. Henry offers evidence-based treatments for a range of psychological problems, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
Following undergraduate studies in Psychology, Henry Austin completed a Master of Clinical Psychology at the University of Western Australia (UWA). He undertook his Clinical Psychology Internship across both private and public health settings, with experience at the Robin Winkler Clinic (UWA), the Multidisciplinary Pain Management Centre at Royal Perth Hospital, and the Youth Inpatient Unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Henry is currently undertaking a Joint PhD between the University of Western Australia and University of Amsterdam on the relationship between emotions and alcohol use, due for completion in 2020.
